King and Wood (China)

Gary Song is a partner in the intellectual property practice of King & Wood. He focuses on complex IP litigation, with particular strength in patent, standard-essential patent (SEP), and trademark disputes.

Gary has extensive experience in patent infringement and invalidation proceedings, particularly in technology-intensive industries such as semiconductors, communications, optical components, computer software, consumer electronics, and network equipment. He regularly acts for multinational companies and leading technology enterprises in parallel infringement and validity disputes before Chinese courts and the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA). His work covers the full lifecycle of patent disputes, including case strategy, technical analysis, evidence collection, claim construction, infringement and non-infringement arguments, invalidation strategy, expert coordination, trial advocacy, and settlement positioning.

Gary also has a strong practice in SEP and FRAND-related disputes. He advises and represents domestic and international companies in SEP litigation involving infringement, validity, licensing terms, antitrust issues, and global licensing negotiations. His SEP work requires a sophisticated understanding of both Chinese litigation practice and the broader commercial dynamics of global technology licensing.

In addition to his patent and SEP practice, Gary has substantial experience in trademark, copyright, trade dress, and unfair competition litigation. He has represented well-known global brands in enforcement campaigns and civil actions against infringers, including disputes involving fashion, sportswear, machinery, online games, and consumer-facing products. His trademark litigation practice covers brand protection strategy, infringement lawsuits, evidence preservation, damages claims, trade name enforcement, and coordinated actions against multiple defendants.

Gary has appeared before the Supreme People’s Court Intellectual Property Tribunal, specialized IP courts, local courts, and CNIPA. A number of matters he has handled have been selected as exemplary cases by Chinese courts and administrative authorities.
