Ian Schick is a patent technologist, entrepreneur, and legal-tech executive at the forefront of AI-driven innovation in intellectual property. He is the CEO and Co-Founder of Paximal, an enterprise-grade agentic AI platform built for patent professionals.
Ian’s perspective is grounded in deep experience inside top-tier patent practice. He spent many years in private practice primarily at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman, advising on sophisticated technology matters and supporting venture-backed startups and growth companies. That combination—high-stakes legal work plus hands-on technical depth—shapes his product philosophy today: AI should remove friction and expand capacity, but outputs must remain reviewable, consistent, and ready for professional judgment at the right checkpoints.
Since 2017, Ian has helped define what “AI for patents” can look like in practice. He co-founded Specifio—the first mass content generator for patents—pioneering commercially available, high-volume patent drafting automation. Specifio demonstrated that attorney-drafted software method claims could be converted into a first-draft specification—with system and method figures—in just a couple of minutes, giving practitioners a substantive starting point they could efficiently refine. He later launched Draft Builders, extending that automation mindset into managed workflows that blend advanced tools with expert review.
Ian is also an active leader within the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA), serving as Co-Chair of the Practice Innovation Subcommittee and as a member of the Artificial Intelligence Task Force, contributing to the profession’s work on responsible, practical adoption of AI across modern IP workflows.
