Richard Nugent is a commercially driven IP strategist and negotiator who helps companies turn intangible assets into income and strategic leverage. Over a 35‑year career he has built IP functions, re‑engineered contracts processes and closed cross‑border agreements across Europe, the UK, the US and emerging markets. His track record spans research institutes, blue‑chip technology and telecoms, deep‑tech start‑ups and commodities trading.

He led the maturation and growth of a research institute’s IP portfolio, introducing digital processes and modernising contracting. Since early 2023 he has been creating and launching AI+IP software tools. Richard authored national‑level IP policy work in Brazil and authored a guidance paper for WIPO on AI & Healthcare, and he has delivered training for executives and innovators in the UK, Ireland, Slovenia, Turkey, South Africa and beyond. 

Richard's work focuses on three levers: 

(1) monetising IP and data responsibly, unlocking new revenues; 
(2) professionalising agreements and governance for speed with control; 
(3) securing strategic partnerships and financing. 

He is comfortable in complex, politically sensitive environments, and is valued for clear thinking, calm decision‑making and the ability to bring fractious counterparties to agreement.
